COMMENTS:
I would also like to take this opportunity to say how much
I enjoyed being involved in 1776. I had looked
forward to it since you first contacted me back in 2003. I'm a history
buff like you, and I thought the relevance of this play could not be more
compelling.
Today's world and the role of our country in it is nothing like it was
just a few years ago, to say nothing of 200 years ago. As we Americans
watch new
governments try to get started, 1776 delivers to us a valuable lesson.
We have no right to be critical of the failures of countries like Afganistan
or Iraq, or
the many African nations that have struggling to get it together since
the sixties. We need to be understanding and as helpful as we can be,
never failing to note how much help these countries actually want from
us. Back to the show, this was perhaps the best ensemble cast I have ever
been part of. Such tight-knit groups are usually small (NOISES OFF, LEND
ME A TENOR), but 1776 had all the warmth any ensemble group ever had.
Your presense and technique fostered much of it. Once again, thanks for
inviting me aboard!
